SALISBURY, MD---色综合久久 University’s Environmental Studies Colloquium Series returns this spring with four presentations during the semester.
Topics include:
- Wednesday, February 5, 7 p.m., Henson Science Hall Room 243 – “Study Abroad Experiences”: Hear student stories and learn about winter term, summer term and semester-long opportunities for learning and travel.
- Tuesday, February 25, 7 p.m., Henson Science Hall Room 243 – “Bridging Disciplines: Transdisciplinary Research and Teaching in the Brazilian Amazon”: Dr. Jill Caviglia-Harris, professor of economics and environmental studies, discusses the challenges and opportunities of fostering transdisciplinary research in the Brazilian Amazon, drawing on her Fulbright experience teaching to students in Rondônia, Brazil.
- Wednesday, April 12, 7 p.m., Henson Science Hall Room 243 – “A Serpent in Eden: How Chessie the Sea Monster Swallowed Kent Island”: In the 1970s and 1980s, waterfront communities around the Chesapeake Bay became fascinated by reports of a sea serpent known as ‘Chessie’ – while watermen denied the creature’s existence. Eric Cheezum explores the reasons why, and what the monster’s presence tells us about postwar cultural change in the region. Co-sponsored by the Edward H. Nabb Center for Delmarva History and Culture.
- Wednesday, April 30, 7 p.m., Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons Assembly Hall – Migrations: Tom Horton and David Harp screen their new Bay Journal film, produced with collaborator Sandy Cannon Brown. This film tracks migrations of swans and eels, butterflies and shorebirds. It is about “the fundamental rhythms that sustain and enrich North America’s greatest estuary” — the Chesapeake Bay. Co-sponsored by the Nabb Center for Delmarva History and Culture.
